How to Create Fishing Logs
Learn how to track your catches with detailed logs including species, location, lures, and weather.
Step-by-Step Guide
Navigate to My Fishing Hole
Go to your fishing log dashboard
- Click 'My Fishing Hole' in the navigation menu
- Or visit the fishing logs page directly
- You'll see all your previously logged catches
Click 'Add New Log'
Start creating a new fishing log entry
- Click the 'Add Fish Log' button
- This opens the fishing log form
- All required fields are marked with *
Select Your Fish Species
Choose the type of fish you caught
- Use the species dropdown menu
- Search by name or browse categories
- 1140+ species available organized by region
- Can't find your species? Use 'Other' and add notes
Enter Fish Details
Record measurements and details
- Weight: Enter in pounds and ounces
- Length: Record total length in inches
- Girth (optional): Circumference measurement
- Quantity: How many fish of this type
Add Location Information
Mark where you caught the fish
- GPS coordinates are automatically captured (if enabled)
- Or manually enter location name
- Water body/lake/river name
- State/region selection
- Specific spot details (structure, depth)
Record Lure & Rigging
Document what you used to catch the fish
- Select lure/bait from dropdown
- Choose rigging setup
- Add custom lures if not in the list
- Create custom rigging configurations
- Specify colors, sizes, and techniques
Weather Conditions
Weather is auto-captured or manually entered
- Temperature (automatically recorded)
- Wind speed and direction
- Cloud cover/conditions
- Barometric pressure
- Tide information (for saltwater)
Add Photos & Notes
Make your log memorable
- Upload photos of your catch
- Multiple photos supported
- Add detailed notes about the experience
- Tips for next time
- Water conditions and observations
Save Your Log
Submit and view your fishing log
- Review all information
- Click 'Save Log' to submit
- Your log is immediately visible in My Fishing Hole
- Share with the community or keep private

Can I edit a log after saving it?
Yes! You can edit any log at any time. Just go to your log, click the edit button, make your changes, and save.
Do I need GPS enabled?
No, GPS is optional. If enabled, it will automatically capture your location. Otherwise, you can manually enter location details.
Can I log multiple fish at once?
Yes! Use the quantity field to log multiple fish of the same species caught at the same time and location.
What if my species isn't listed?
We have 1140+ species, but if yours isn't listed, select "Other" and specify the species in the notes section. You can also contact us to add it!
